Common Questions
Why is a background check necessary?
On February 23, 2023, the St Johns Classical Academy Board of Directors adopted a policy to comply with Senate Bill 2524, 435.12 Florida Statutes to enhance background screenings within schools. By taking these steps, our school continues to make safety a priority.
How long will the appointment take and what's the cost?
Plan for 30 minutes. The cost for fingerprinting varies by location and will likely range between $85-$100.
If you've completed a background check for another organization, do you still need to complete this process?
Yes.
How is my personal information handled?
The information you share with the school is confidential.
Is a volunteer shirt required on a field trip or to volunteer?
Yes. SJCA does require parents/guardians to wear a specific t-shirt for field trips and volunteer opportunities on campus.
On the Fleming Island campus, you can purchase a t-shirt through the Lions Council website and pick it up at the reception building. The cost is $15.

On the Orange Park campus, you can purchase a t-shirt at the front desk. The cost is $15.
Can I still come on campus without this clearance and how long does this clearance last?
You can visit campus for events, award ceremonies, or to eat lunch with your scholar without this clearance, but if you plan to volunteer or attend a field trip, you must complete the Level II Background Check.
If cleared, it will last for five years. (Note: There is no longer a one-year option).
Level II Background Check
If you plan to chaperone a field trip or volunteer on campus, you must complete a level two background check, which includes fingerprinting.
To complete this process:
Fill out the form
Receive email regarding fingerprinting process.
Pay for fingerprinting (Cost varies by location).
Attend your appointment.
Receive an email upon clearance.
Once cleared, you can attend field trips and will receive emails about volunteer opportunities on campus.

Please see the link below to the new Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse Education and Awareness website. This site was implemented under the directive of House Bill 531(2025).
As part of these requirements:
“Each specified agency must include a clear and conspicuous link to the webpage on its website and provide the link in all job vacancy advertisements and posts by the qualified entity.”
What this means for you: Any job announcement that requires a screening through the Clearinghouse must include a link to this website as of 1/1/2026.
